Kearsney College (Coastal champions) and Hilton College (Inland Champions) clashed in the KZN T20 Final on a balmy afternoon at the historical Maritzburg Oval on 20th February 2020.

Kearsney won the toss and put Hilton in to bat. As underdogs, the Kearsney rationale was that if the powerful Hilton side could be restricted to a manageable total, Kearsney could hopefully chase it down. Hilton came out of the blocks aggressively from the start. The Kearsney counter was to take pace off the ball and Hilton lost wickets regularly. The two Hilton kingpins were fortunately dispatched early (S. Van Staden bowled for 4 and N. Hatton run out for 28). M Boast was the only other significant contributor with a well-played 24 and Hilton were bowled out for 102. Pick of the Kearsney bowlers were M. McMurray (2/9), J Stocks (2/12) and A. Nyawose (2/10)

The formidable Hilton attack had work to do and they went about their business as efficiently and skilfully as one would expect. In the first 60 deliveries, Kearsney conceded 40 dot balls and J Uys was back in the hut. However D. Hulett (22), J. Talbot (27*) and Captain of the Kearsney side C. Carmichael managed to steer the Kearsney side to their second Final win in 4 years by 5 wickets.

They will now go to the National T20 tournament 6th-8th March representing the Dolphins and play the other five franchises.

It was a hard-fought encounter that literally went down to the wire and showcased why this competition is so vital for the further development of youth cricket in South Africa.
