Showcase your rugby talent!

South African schoolboy rugby players will still have a chance to showcase their talent in 2020.

Introducing The Showcase, a digital and live event that focuses on giving rugby and netball players between the ages of 12 and 19 the opportunity to showcase their talent in a sporting year severely disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Here’s how it will work …

In this digital phase, participants will have to complete a range of certain sport-specific strength conditioning drills, designed to determine, nurture and develop their speed, strength, agility and skill across different sport, gender and age levels. These drills have been used in school sports in America for many years to instil a culture of strength and conditioning in general sports participation and performance. They are well known and easy to do.

The top achievers from Phase 1 will be invited to progress to Phase 2. During this phase, the athletes will showcase their talent in front of talent scouts, selectors, coaches and recruiters, who have not had an opportunity to see any talent on display in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Here, all the top athletes in the target regions, ages and sports codes will have an opportunity to participate and compete individually. It’s something like the CrossFit Games for scholars.

The Showcase will end in a schools’ sports festival where limited spaces will be available for schools wanting to take part in a weekend of team-based rugby and netball matches. This will only take place once all Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted. It will allow as many matches as possible in a fast-flowing, talent-displaying, strength vs strength and entertaining format. Teams will have the opportunity to play against other teams in one location, viewed and broadcast for all to view and enjoy.
