Sharks Take Long Term View – Part 3

In the final of the series profiling local schools that have produced the kind of players that The Sharks are backing for long term success, we feature Durban High School.

This Musgrave school has left an indelible mark as part of Durban’s educational and sporting history and has consistently been a top school in the city since it opened its doors in 1866, welcoming the initial intake of the grand total of seven pupils.

Former DHS players who now find themselves entrenched as part of the Cell C Sharks’ set-up are Celimpilo Gumede, Hendrick Phepsi Buthelezi and Sanele Nohamba.

The three join the likes of Team of the 90s eighthman Andrew Aitken, prop BJ Botha now playing in Ireland, and lock Alistair Hargreaves who carved out a successful career at The Sharks and then Saracens in England after captaining the successful SA U19 squad to the title of the IRB Junior World Championship held in South Africa in 2005.

“I don’t think there would be an easier decision in rugby in extending the contracts of Nohamba, Buthelezi and Gumede. Exceptionally talented individuals with a great work ethic. They going to do some great things for the Sharks franchise”.
