SA Rugby Legends head to the Lowveld

The South African Rugby Legends Association (SARLA) engages in charitable initiatives throughout the country, to help communities in need. And during the COVID-19 lockdown period, they have ramped up their efforts on a grand scale. This weekend, on 17th October, the SA Legends head to Ngodwana in Mpumalanga, where they will pack food parcels and essential items for the community and host a coaching clinic for local children.

This follows an invitation from long-time friend of SARLA, former Lions and SA 7’s player Marc Watson, as well as Sappi and Joubert & Sons – two well-known and established companies in the area. An impressive turnout of around 30 Legends is expected to be pitching in.

Following a Legends shooting competition, 130 local children will participate in the coaching clinic, where they will also receive T-Shirts and be treated to wors rolls on the Ngodwana (Sappi) Rugby Field. After the clinic, the Legends will head to the Joubert & Sons Padstal, to pack food and essential items for elderly community members in need at the Silver Days and Wenakker homes.

A who’s who of SA Rugby Legends have already confirmed that they will be on-hand to help. These include Ryan Kankowski, John Mametsa, Adriaan Richter, Ian McIntosh, Wynand Olivier, Adrian Garvey, Ethienne Reynecke, Quintin Geldenhuys, John Allan and Dick Muir amongst others.

SARLA CEO Stefan Terblanche says,

“We’re very excited to be hosting this clinic and bringing rugby to children who may not normally have the opportunity to experience it, especially of late. Sport has the power to bring people together and this event is proof of that. Thanks to Marc Watson, Sappi and Joubert & Sons for their valuable support”.
