In the IEB matric results released today (Monday), Kearsney College’s Jack White and Ryan Browning achieved distinctions in all eight subjects they wrote, were both placed on the IEB’s Commendable List of pupils in the top 5% across the country in five subjects, as well as both being in the top 1% in SA in three subjects.
Overall a remarkable 20% of Kearsney boys achieved four or more distinctions, whilst 65% of the class achieved an A or B aggregate. Once again Kearsney maintained its 100% pass rate, with 98,5% achieving a Bachelor Degree pass (university endorsement).
Jack White, who was Kearsney’s dux last year, achieved 90% for English, geography 95%, history 92%, isiZulu 92%, life orientation 84%, mathematics 99%, physical sciences 95% and calculus 94%. He was in the top 1% in SA in mathematics, physical sciences and geography; and captained Kearsney’s 2nd cricket team last season.
Runner-up dux and 1st team cricketer Ryan Browning also achieved outstanding results - Afrikaans 84%, English 90%, history 98%, life orientation 87%, life sciences 89%, mathematics 98%, physical sciences 94%, calculus 82%. He was in the top 1% in SA in mathematics, physical sciences and history.
53 distinctions between them - Matthew Shepherd 7, Julian Carbonel 7, Matthew Lamplough 7, Finn Calenborne 6, Jack White 8, Woojae Lee 5, Pranav Sewsunker 6 and Luhlelo Sibisi 7.
Multiple distinctions were also received by Luhlelo Sibisi, Matthew Lamplough, Julian Carbonel and Matthew Shepherd (seven each); Bryce Blomquist, Jasper Bruno, Finn Calenborne, Brandon Haley, Matthew Huson and Pranav Sewsunker (six each), with Luca Borrageiro, Guy Carpenter, Lee Woojae, Lwandile Nzala and Evan Powers (five each).
Kearsney boys ranked in the top 1% of learners nationally in individual subjects: White (mathematics, physical sciences and geography), Browning (mathematics, physical sciences and history), Matthew Lamplough (English and history), Finn Callenborne (engineering graphics and design) and Max Buchan (history).
Headmaster Patrick Lees said Kearsney’s number one priority remains academic excellence.

Kearsney College’s A Golf team will represent KwaZulu-Natal at the national Golf RSA event in Middelburg during August. They won the recent Nomads KZN Golf Union Schools Championships held in challenging misty and rainy conditions at the Victoria Country Club in Pietermaritzburg.
The weekend saw Maritzburg College host Clifton in several hard-fought basketball, cricket and water polo fixtures. Sadly, rain earlier in the week and the threat of storms on Saturday impacted several clashes, although there was still plenty of excellent sporting action to enjoy.
A squad of 30 players will depart to Georgia on Sunday as the Junior Springboks kick off their 2025 season with a short tour, which features three matches and forms an integral part of the national Under-20 group’s preparations for the forthcoming season.
While Game Day against Hilton College was full of action, we also had some notable performances during the week from our athletes, competing in the Aquellé Series and our Squash players who are taking part in the Top 8 league.
The Vodacom Bulls consolidated their third place on the Vodacom United Rugby Championship standings as they held out a determined DHL Stormers outfit in a dramatic encounter for a nail-biting 33-32 win in their postponed round one fixture at a packed DHL Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday.
The battle lines will be clearly marked on Saturday when the DHL Stormers host the Vodacom Bulls in their highly anticipated Vodacom United Rugby Championship north-south derby in Cape Town, where the Pretoria outfit will be looking to reduce the gap between themselves and the two top sides on the standings, while the hosts will be desperate to close in on the top eight to improve their playoff chances.
