School Focus: St Martin’s School

ABOUT ST MARTIN'S SCHOOL
We nurture students’ God-given gifts to allow them to reach their potential. In the classroom we encourage curiosity, creativity and critical thinking. In the arts we celebrate diversity and develop a love for each human being. In sport we learn teamwork and the power of encouragement. Race, religion, gender and sexual orientation are celebrated here because in our school’s embrace of individual choices, we teach the value of community and social justice. Our history compels us to join the long struggle for freedom - in all its forms - in this country.

St Martin’s School is a top-class independent school with a Christian ethos. We encourage our students to be respectful, courageous, selfless and honest.

Our classes are small, thus allowing teachers to offer each student individualised attention and ensure that no student falls behind. Children are encouraged to develop confidence in their thinking and to explore their potential in their fields of interest.

Students are encouraged to be curious, creative critical thinkers. Talent is nurtured to help each child develop to their full potential.

St Martin’s students are prepared for the National Senior Certificate through the Independent Examination Board (IEB) with a history of consistently excellent matric results.

ACADEMICS
Pre-Prep
St Martin’s Pre-Prep, fosters critical thinking and creativity from a young age in Grade 000. Each year becomes progressively more structured to prepare children for their educational journey while maintaining a fun and engaging environment. We are a happy, nurturing, family-oriented school where parents are encouraged to be part of our community.

Our programme allows children to develop their creativity, enhance communication skills, and acquire social interaction abilities through play. At this developmental stage, children learn about themselves through activities such as baking, climbing, running, construction, creating, singing, dancing, and communicating.

Afternoon supervision and cooked lunch is included for our Pre-Prep students. Our pre-prep school fees cover a wide range of activities and services, including the Kinetix Programme, Play Ball, integrated sports, extra-curricular activities, and digital learning from Grade 000 onwards. Music lessons and art classes in our specially designed art room are also included.
Junior Preparatory (Grades 1 to 3)
Our curriculum is anchored by Singapore Maths and the THRASS language programme, providing a solid foundation in numeracy and literacy skills. Weekly visits to specialised areas, such as the digital learning room, music room, computer centre, library, and physical education classes, enrich the educational journey. Educational outings complement classroom themes, and an integrated sports programme introduces grade ones to various athletic disciplines.
Senior Preparatory (Grades 4 to 7)
In the Senior Preparatory phase at St Martin’s, we believe that education is life itself. We provide a safe and stimulating environment where every student can discover, grow, and achieve their fullest potential. Our caring and enthusiastic staff support students in becoming critical and independent thinkers, nurturing their academic and spiritual needs through a balanced curriculum.
High School
At St Martin’s High School, we embrace a progressive curriculum ethos that goes beyond traditional teaching methods. We cultivate dynamic and realistic learning experiences to foster each student’s holistic development. Collaboration among students, teachers, and parents ensures continuous support and motivation.

We believe in nurturing the whole child, extending beyond traditional academics to develop essential 21st century skills. Two of our unique initiatives, the Form One Personalised Learning Programme (PLP), and the Free Friday programme, exemplify this commitment by providing students with enriching experiences that foster critical competencies and embody the “hidden curriculum”.

Curriculum - Preparing for Life

Form One and Two:
Our curriculum seamlessly integrates IEB subjects with personalised learning projects annually. This hands-on approach culminates in a year-end exhibition which showcases student achievements across the various disciplines. This allows students to express themselves, each in their own uniques way, and it’s an event of great pride, for students and parents alike.
Form Three to Form Five:
Students pursue the IEB’s National Senior Certificate, valued by South African and international universities for its academic rigor. In Form Three, students select from core subjects and electives tailored to their academic interests and career aspirations.
