Potchefstroom High School for Boys is a traditional boarding school, built on an educationally ideal and tranquil estate in Potchefstroom. College, as is commonly known, boasts highly qualified and motivated educators who are passionate about the development of the boys in all spheres of their lives, not just in education. Apart from their teaching, many educators are also involved in the hostels, where they look after the boys, supervise prep (homework) sessions as well as chaperone the boys to school, sporting events and extra mural activities, which foster leadership training. All this makes it more likely that the boys leave College as confident well-rounded gentlemen.
The school curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and offers the following subject in Grades 10-12: English Home Language, Afrikaans First Additional Language, Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy, Life Orientation, Physical Science, Life Science, Geography, History, Accounting, Business Studies, Economics, Computer Applications Technology and Engineering, Graphics and Design.
At Potchefstroom High School for Boys, we are proud to encourage an active lifestyle. Our students have access to a diverse array of sporting codes, where they receive dedicated training to excel. Our athletes embody honor and passion in their pursuits, representing the school with pride.
Boys’ High has an excellent record with regards to sporting achievements and we have produced many Springboks in all sporting codes. In the past 10 years, Boys’ High has made a major contribution with regards to the development of sportsmen and many have achieved Provincial Colours as well as represented South Africa at the Olympics.
Sporting codes offered at College are: Athletics, Cross Country, Rugby, Hockey, Cricket, Squash, Tennis and Soccer.
College participates in local, provincial and national competitions. Learners are encouraged to take part in Public Speaking and Debating as enhancement of the languages in the curriculum. The school has various programmes associated with cultural activities such as UN Debate Model, Eisteddfod as well as Inter School competitions within the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District.
Learners are able to take part in Debating, Public Speaking, Afrikaans Redenaars, Chess, General Knowledge Quiz and Interact which is sponsored by the local Rotary Club.
Bokkie, our newest addition to the family, is here to embody school spirit at our sports matches and events. Bokkie cheers our teams and promotes a sense of togetherness and friendly rivalry,reminding everyone about the importance of friendship and healthy competition.
