College Football concludes season with competitive showing against DHS
Maritzburg College brought its 2026 football season to a fitting close with an entertaining day of competitive action against Durban High School (DHS) on Saturday, 12 September.
The 1st XI played out a thrilling 2-2 draw before DHS edged the RAW Cup 5-4 in the penalty shootout. The 2nd XI and 4th XI both recorded 1-1 draws, while the 3rd XI finished with a 2-4 result.
College’s junior teams also produced some excellent performances, with the 16D, 15B, 15D, 14A, 14B and 14D teams all recording victories.
The day was a fitting celebration of a fantastic season of school football in KwaZulu-Natal. A huge thank you to DHS for hosting an exciting Saturday of football and to all the schools across KZN who contributed to such a memorable season.
Well done to all our College footballers on a fantastic 2026 season.

Water Polo celebrates success at St Charles Co-Ed Tournament
Maritzburg College’s Water Polo teams produced a fantastic showing at the St Charles Co-Ed Water Polo Tournament, with the U14A team crowned champions.
The U14A side put in a superb performance, defeating St Charles 12-1 in the final to take home the tournament title.
The College 2nd Team also reached the final, where they faced Thomas More College 1st Team, finishing as runners-up after a 4-9 result.
A huge congratulations to both teams on an excellent tournament and to our U14A champions on a well-deserved victory.

College Cycling Team delivers strong showing at KZN Schools Cycling Event
Maritzburg College’s Cycling Team produced an excellent display at the fourth KZN Schools Cycling Event, held at Maritzburg College on Sunday, 13 September. The event attracted a record number of entries, with riders competing on the cycling track built at the College.
K Searle led the way in the Junior category with an impressive third-place finish, followed by B Fourie in seventh and C Wood in 10th. L Kubheka placed 13th, with L Makhoba (35th), H Dlamuka (38th), H Dlamuka (41st), S Bernstein (43rd) and V Ramdeen (52nd) also representing the College.
In the Youth category, D Rencken finished 14th, followed by D Chunilall in 15th and R Champkins in 16th. A Hodge placed 18th, with M Hull (19th), L Bernard (33rd), M Khanyile (38th) and C Lambert (39th) completing the College contingent.
The Sub-junior U14 category saw M Badenhorst finish 14th, with S Ndaba placing 15th.
The event provided a fantastic platform for young cyclists to showcase their ability on College’s home track, with the team once again demonstrating the enthusiasm, commitment and talent within the College cycling programme.

College Canoeing celebrates double SA K2 River Championship victory
Maritzburg College canoeists produced an outstanding showing at the SA K2 River Championships held on the Liebenbergsvlei River in Reitz, claiming two impressive victories. In the Senior K2 category, K Vogt and his partner, H Lovemore, powered their way to 1st place.
The U18 K2 title was also claimed by College, with J Gotte and his partner, S Ndlovu, taking 1st place in their category.
A fantastic achievement for both crews and another proud moment for College Canoeing. Congratulations to Keegan, Hamish, James and Siyabonga.

College Rugby Star Selected for SARU U16 EPD Camp

Congratulations to S Buthelezi on his selection to participate in the SARU U16 EPD Rugby Camp in the Western Cape from 26 September to 2 October 2026.
His selection is a fantastic achievement and reflects the strength of Maritzburg College’s outstanding rugby programme.
The College community wishes S Buthelezi every success as he takes this exciting next step in his rugby journey.
College Boys Shine at Vogue Ball
Maritzburg College boys enjoyed a memorable evening at the annual Vogue Ball hosted by Epworth School, embracing the opportunity to socialise, dance and connect with learners from across the Pietermaritzburg school community.
The evening provided a wonderful platform for friendship, camaraderie and building relationships between local schools.
The College extends its thanks to the Epworth staff and everyone involved in creating such a fantastic event.
