Kearsney deliver winning finale to Winter sport season

Kearsney College welcomed Northwood to the Stott on Saturday for their final home fixture of the season, securing a hard-fought 2-0 victory after an impressive second-half performance.

Kearsney knew they would face a direct and physical Northwood side, and the visitors imposed themselves early. Northwood applied significant pressure during the opening stages and created several good opportunities. Despite the visitors’ strong start, the sides went into the break locked at 0-0.

Kearsney responded impressively after half-time. The hosts competed more aggressively for the ball in open play and began to pose a far greater threat in transition. As the intensity increased, Kearsney repeatedly put the Northwood defensive line under pressure and began to take control of the contest.

The breakthrough eventually arrived through Kayden Mulder, who found the back of the net to give Kearsney a deserved lead. The momentum remained firmly with the hosts and, shortly afterwards, captain Simnene Kubheka added a second to put Kearsney 2-0 ahead.

From a difficult opening period against a physical and determined Northwood side, Kearsney showed maturity in adjusting to the demands of the contest and produced a disciplined and energetic second-half display.

The 2-0 victory provided a fitting conclusion to the home team’s campaign.
