St Charles College vs Glenwood
The weather decision-makers had some work to do on Saturday morning, but thankfully the rain held off and all games were started on time. We thank the grounds and estates team for their hard work to enable opportunity for boys to play. One of the few games on the day that didn’t conclude was the 1st XI on The Oval, the match report by head coach Lucky Dladla is as follows:

St Charles College won the toss and decided to bowl first on a wicket that had some moisture and was conducive to bowling. The Saints opening pair struggled to find a decent line and length up front. First change bowlers came to the rescue by drying up the runs and forcing Glenwood batsmen to make mistakes. Wickets started to fall, and Saints made inroads into the Glenwood’s batting line-up. The men in Blue and Gold were not at their best in the field, a few catches went down, and Glenwood were able to get to 182/8 in 50 overs.

After lunch, the Saints began the chase. The St Charles College opening pair batted with control and rotated strike with ease, reaching a 50-run partnership in 11 overs without loss. After the afternoon tea, Glenwood bowlers applied pressure on both ends. The Saints lost 4 wickets and the score was 107 for 4 when the rain came down. The match was abandoned.
1st Team Basketball report by Head Coach, Darren Holcomb
After two tough losses, St Charles College 1st Team travelled to Durban over the weekend to face Glenwood High School. Having lost their two previous fixtures, the Saints were desperate to get a win and start the process of turning their season around. However, playing on the outdoor Glenwood court, where the elements play a key role was not going to be easy.

With a new starting lineup, the First Team got off to a good start by establishing their size dominance early in the game behind big man and captain Matthew Naude. Matthew used his large frame to take up space on defence and made some good offensive moves to keep the scoreboard ticking over. The Blue and Gold applied as much defensive pressure as possible by running a full-court trap. This put Glenwood under immense pressure forcing them to make mistakes which led to easy transition scoring. In the half-court, the visitors were able to run their offensive sets and get the open shots they were looking for.

While Glenwood played hard to the very end, it was a complete performance from the St Charles College team as they worked their way to a comfortable victory, winning 72-22.
