ACADEMICS

At Glenwood, our commitment to academic excellence is unwavering.

We offer a comprehensive and diverse curriculum that equips our boys with the knowledge, skills, and critical thinking abilities needed to thrive in any career path they choose to pursue. Our educational approach goes beyond routine learning; it fosters a deep understanding of subjects, encourages curiosity, and promotes lifelong learning.

With this foundation, our boys are prepared not just for success in their immediate academic endeavors but also for the ever-evolving challenges of the future. At Glenwood, we empower our boys to excel in all their goals.

CAMBRIDGE

Glenwood Cambridge International School offers boys and girls the opportunity to obtain an International Cambridge qualification. Established in 2016, students at our institution have achieved top honours in South Africa as well as globally. Cambridge Pathway fosters student success, aligning education for deep understanding and engagement.

Gibson House, the School Boarding Establishment, was completed in 1934 and has served Glenwood High School ever since. Originally the House had a capacity of only 60 boys but was extended in the early 1970s to accommodate 151 boys. It has expanded over the years to accommodate 200 boys.

ARTS & CULTURE

Our Philosophy

At Glenwood, we recognise that learning extends beyond the classroom. We are committed to providing opportunities for boys to develop their full potential, discover their passions, and explore their unique talents.

Our diverse arts and co-curricular programmes encourage self-expression and creativity. Whether through drama, music, or visual arts, boys are able to fully utilise their gifts in ways that enrich their educational experience.

Drama plays a vital role in our arts programme, where boys gain valuable skillsin acting, production, and theatre management. The annual school play is the highlight of the drama calendar, showcasing our talented actors, many of whom participate in professional television series and productions beyond Glenwood.

SPORT

At Glenwood, we believe that sport is a vital component of our all-inclusive approach to education. Alongside academics, culture, and environmental awareness, it plays a pivotal role in shaping our boys into well-rounded young gentlemen. Our perspective on sports extends beyond nurturing elite athletes; it emphasizes mass participation as well.

Glenwood takes immense pride in the high levels of provincial and national representation achieved by our boys in various sports. We view sports not just as a physical activity but as a means to instill discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and a strong sense of character. Through sports, our students learn valuable life lessons that extend far beyond the playing field, preparing them to excel in both their personal and academic endeavors. At Glenwood, we celebrate the power of sports to shape exceptional individuals.

BROTHERHOOD

At Glenwood, fostering a sense of brotherhood is more than just a concept; it's a way of life. We've designed specialized programmes to nurture camaraderie and unity among our boys. From day one, we encourage them to respect and embrace each other's differences, recognizing that diversity enriches our community.

We firmly believe that positive relationships are the cornerstone of academic success. It's no coincidence that our academic staff includes a substantial number of former students – our Old Boys – who continue to contribute to our legacy of brotherhood. Their presence is a testament to the enduring bonds formed during their time here.

While we champion individuality and personal growth, every boy at Glenwood is an integral part of the Green Machine's brotherhood. Together, we build a supportive environment that empowers each student to thrive academically, personally, and as a valued member of our unique and close-knit community.
