VALUES FOCUSED AND WELLNESS SUPPORT
At St Benedict's we pride ourselves in producing young gentlemen who are well-balanced, contributing members of the community. The skills and attitudes boys develop at our school are designed to advance his lifelong learning, adaptability, socio-emotional enrichment and success.

Our team of well qualified and experienced teachers as well as our innovative classroom and educational practices have resulted in a rich tradition of academic excellence. St Benedict's has consistently produced outstanding results in the IEB matriculation examinations. We have maintained our 100% matric pass rate for the past 48 years and university exemption rates are generally in excess of 98%. Our top achievers invariably feature on the IEB Outstanding and Commendable Achievers lists.

We recognise that every boy has great potential and our Academic programme is structured to bring out the highest potential of every boy.
Culture forms one of the four cornerstones of a St Benedict's education and we believe that it is through participation in the Cultural programme of the school that boys can perform to their full potential in the classroom. Boys have the opportunity to explore a variety of creative and culturally enriching activities including: Public Speaking, Debating, Drama, Chess, Choir, Marimba band, Music school and Pipe band.

Cultural Accolades:
St Benedict's are the winners of the Festival of Excellence in Dramatic Arts (FEDA) 2025
St Benedict's Pipe Band are the reigning champions of the SA Pipe Band Championships for 2025
We believe that brotherhood is shaped on the sports field and the development of the body makes for a healthy mind. There is little that is more fulfilling than a competitive game for boys and whether the result is a win or a loss, the experience provides boys with invaluable life lessons. At St Benedict's we prioritise investment in exceptional world class facilities and qualified coaches to provide boys with the tools to become exceptional sportsmen in any sport of their choice.

Our sporting programme starts at the Junior Preparatory school where a healthy emphasis on participation, confidence-building and personal development are key. At Preparatory School, boys begin to participate in a wider range of sporting activities. Once the boys reach the College, they must participate in all sports (or pipe band). The sports offered at St Benedict's include athletics, basketball, cricket, cross-country, hockey, rowing, rugby, soccer, swimming, tennis and water polo.

Our sporting accolades:
St Benedict's holds the title of Schools Rowing Champions for 31 years.
Our boarding school, called Bishop Grandin House, is a fully fledged boarding establishment, catering for 75 boys. The boarding house offers both weekly and termly boarding for boys from Grades 8-12. The boys' "Bennies experience" is greatly enhanced through the boarding house and all it has to offer. From the wonderful food to facilities rivaling those of any boarding school in the country, coupled with caring staff, boarding at St Benedict's is the educational option of choice.
Our values focused programmes and wellness support are all intended to underpin and support our wellness philosophy. Each of the programmes is aimed at interweaving important aspects of interconnections and strengthening relationships. These include aspects of combating bullying, character building education, restorative discipline processes and relational staff engagement which allows for each member of the community to actively participate in creating a happy campus.

Our ethos as expressed by the missionary nature of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate is to support members of the school community: students, families and staff, regardless of background, religion or circumstance. Community service and outreach forms a core part of our education philosophy and our boys are committed to promote social justice through their active engagement in these programmes.

We invite you to visit our school for a glimpse into what goes into shaping the trailblazers of tomorrow.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION

One would have to traverse vast distances to discover anything quite like the natural setting which Michaelhouse enjoys and our school capitalizes on a myriad of opportunities to include the environment as a critical part of our learning. The outdoor programme for our E (Grade 8), D (Grade 9) and C Block (Grade 10) boys keys into the major advantages of a Michaelhouse education: fostering curiosity, resilience and belonging.

The additional benefits of environmental awareness, and cultural understanding are fundamental to the journey or personal growth which our boys enjoy while they are challenged physically and mentally miles away from the home comforts of daily school life.

Michaelhouse believes that outdoor education is essential for holistic development, shaping our boys into thoughtful, capable, and environmentally conscious individuals.
