Glenwood welcomes Mr Justin Hollis as their new Director of Rugby

Glenwood High School is proud to announce the appointment of Mr Justin Hollis as our new Director of Rugby.
Mr Hollis brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience, a deep love for the game, and a passion for developing young men of character, purpose and discipline both on and off the field.

As Director of Rugby, Mr Hollis is committed to a holistic model of development. He believes that great rugby players must first become great young men, shaped by strong character, academic discipline, resilience, humility and leadership. His programme places equal emphasis on performance, academics, player wellbeing and values-driven growth.

"I am incredibly grateful for what Glenwood has done for me," says Mr Hollis. "It is a special place, and my vision is to build a rugby programme where players learn the value of giving back to the school, the team and each other. This is about developing young men who serve something greater than themselves."

A proud old boy of Queen’s College Boys’ High School, Mr Hollis matriculated in 2013, having earned Honours for rugby and serving as vice-captain of the Border Craven Week team. He was subsequently contracted by the Eastern Province Kings Rugby Academy, which at the time formed part of a Super Rugby franchise. Between 2014 and 2016, he represented the Kings at under 19 and under 21 Currie Cup level, before going on to play Varsity Cup rugby for Nelson Mandela University and Currie Cup First Division for the Eastern Province Kings from 2017 to 2018.

His coaching journey began at Grey Junior School in Port Elizabeth in 2016. In 2018, he moved to Pearson High School, where he coached the under 16A team. He joined Glenwood High School in 2019 as an educator and coach, a move he describes as deeply formative in his growth as a teacher, mentor and leader.

Since arriving at Glenwood, Mr Hollis has coached the under 15A team in 2019, the under 16A team from 2020 to 2021, and both the 1st XV and 2nd XV since 2022. He served as Master in Charge of Rugby from 2023 to 2025, Master in Charge of Athletics from 2020 to 2024, and has held the role of Subject Head of Sport Science since 2021.

He currently serves as a Senior Boarder Master at Gibson House, where he lives with his wife Tyla. He teaches Sport Science, Physical Sciences and Life Sciences, and oversees the Grade 11 cohort as Form Head. He is also pursuing his Master's degree in Educational Leadership.

A man of faith, Mr Hollis’s leadership is grounded in his walk with Jesus and biblical principles. His purpose as a coach is to model integrity, service and high standards. His aim is to build not only winning teams, but a culture of brotherhood, sacrifice and honour for the Green Jersey. He wants Glenwood Rugby to reflect the very best of what the school stands for.

Please join us in congratulating Mr Hollis on his appointment. We are proud to begin this new chapter in Glenwood Rugby.
